We would like to introduce Dr Melissa Ung as the newest Optometrist to join our team at Yarra Junction Optical.
Melissa graduated with a Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Optometry from The University of Melbourne. Melissa has gained invaluable experience in various locations including volunteering in Cambodia. There, she helped those less fortunate by screening for cataract surgery. Melissa has spent that last two years in Warrnambool gaining extensive experience managing amblyopic children, ocular diseases, glaucoma and various dry eye conditions.
After receiving her first pair of glasses in school, Melissa became passionate about pursuing Optometry in order to help others with their sight. Melissa’s interests include paediatric optometry, ocular management and foreign body removal.
Dr Melissa Ung has already become a valued member of our Yarra Junction Optical family. We are delighted for her to join our community.
Leah Meulendijks - Optometrist
Leah brings a wealth of knowledge from her time working in Central Victoria. She has vast experience co-managing with the local Ophthalmologists many ocular diseases such as Glaucoma, Macular Degeneration and Diabetic Retinopathy to name a few.
Leah is a member of the Australasian College of Behavioural Optometrists.
Leah also spent two and half years being mentored by a Behavioural Optometrist in Bendigo and while she hasn't taken on the role of Behavioural Optometry, has extensive knowledge in the field and can recommend the best referrals if necessary to any child having trouble at school.
Leah was born in Cohuna which is in Northern Victoria and was raised in a small town called Pyramid Hill, only 30 minutes from where she was born. Aside from her time spent studying Optometry at the University of Melbourne, Leah has always lived in the country where she prefers to be. She has a great love of horses and a passion for Optometry which makes the Yarra Valley the ideal home for her and she now resides in Yellingbo.
Lauren - Optometrist
Lauren graduated from The University of Melbourne in 1998 and later completed her certificate in Ocular Therapeutics. She has many years of experience in Children's Vision assessments, having previously worked ina Paediatric Optometry Clinic.
Lauren also has extensive experience in General Optometry, diagnosing and managing a wide range of ocular disease
Dani has been part of the Yarra Junction Optical team for a couple of years. Dani brings with her many years of experience in Optical Dispensing and great expertise in repairs, frame and lens selections and also advice.
On the days Dani is at the practice she will perform most of the dispensing which means she will guide you through all your options and help you choose the most suitable frames and lenses available.
Dani also lives locally in Wesburn and works at Yarra Junction Optical two days per week, usually Tuesdays and Fridays. Dani is also happy to help in any way she can, so if you have a question about glasses you are looking to purchase or having trouble with your current glasses then just drop in and someone will be ready to help.
Lesley has been the smiling face of Yarra Junction Optical reception for over 10 years now. Lesley has great experience and expertise in frame adjustments and small repairs, frame selection and advice on what frames and/or lenses are the best options for you.
Often times after seeing the Optometrist you will be placed in Lesley's capable hands to help you choose your frames and lenses.
Lesley lives in Woori Yallock and can be seen at Yarra Junction Optical four days per week. If you have any questions feel free to drop in and chat with Lesley, she is happy to help any way she can.
Kerry has been working at Yarra Junction Optical since February 2016. Her role at work is an assistant Optical Dispenser, which includes anything from frame adjustments, to reception work, to assist patients select suitable frames and lenses and much more.
She loves working at Yarra Junction Optical as the staff are fantastic and they like to have fun at work. She especially enjoys meeting and talking to patients as everyone is very friendly and at times they can all share a joke together.
Kerry's hobbies include her love for Art which includes oil painting and looking after her Siberian Husky.
Kerry is a member and secretary of her local CFA and also a member of the Lions club.
Susan has been with Yarra Junction Optical since April 2018. She was born and raised in Yarra Valley and loves being part of the community. She works 2 days a week on Thursday and Saturday.
Susan's hobbies include chasing her 2 young children around and hanging out with her doggies.
Outside of Optics her qualifications include a Science Degree and business management.
