At Yarra Junction Optical we are able to provide free contact lens trials for customers who haven't worn contact lenses before or are looking to try a different kind of contact lens. Our free trial allows our customers to try as many different contact lens types as necessary until we find the best match for you.
This means that you have piece of mind when trying contact lenses for the first time and are unsure if they work for you, you will only be required to purchase contact lenses after you have tried them and have decided that you would like to continue wearing them.
Contact lenses are available in most prescriptions and to suit many needs. So regardless of if you wear glasses all the time or only occasionally, contact lenses are still a great option if you are looking to avoid wearing your glasses whether it be altogether or for just special occasions.
Types of contact lenses we regularly prescribe are:
While it can be daunting to think about putting something on your eye, with practice and the proper coaching it can actually be quite easy. Also there are no age limits on contact lenses, all that is required is a keen participant.
All our optometrists are experienced contact lens prescribers and are also very experienced at teaching people how to insert and remove contact lenses as well as how to care for the lenses.
If you are curious about contact lenses just ask one of our staff or the Optometrist during your eye test and they will be able to give you all the information you need to consider contact lenses for yourself.
If you do decide to try contact lenses or if you already wear contact lenses the Optometrist will need to perform extra testing of your eyes in order to assess the health and fit of the lenses. For more information see the following contact lens appointments.
If you would like to try contact lenses the Optometrist will make an appointment for you and order in the necessary trial contact lenses for your fitting. During this visit the Optometrist will insert the contact lenses into your eyes and test your vision, comfort and the way the contact lens fits onto your cornea. Contact lens fittings usually only take around 15 minutes. If the trial contact lenses are the correct fit and prescription for your eye and you are able to insert and remove the lenses on your own without difficulty then you will be allowed to take the contact lenses home after your fitting and trial them to make sure they are the right lenses for you.
If you haven't worn contact lenses before or if you have difficulty inserting and removing the lenses then the Optometrist will recommend that you have a Contact Lens Teach appointment. During this appointment the Optometrist will walk you through the steps to inserting and removing your lenses easily. The Optometrist will then watch as you attempt to insert and remove the lenses and give you pointers on your technique.
Once you are able to insert and remove the lenses easily the Optometrist will give you your trial lenses and book you in for an Contact Lens Aftercare appointment for in a couple of weeks time.
After you have been wearing your trial contact lenses for a few weeks the Optometrist will need to assess the health of your eyes. Contact lenses are relatively safe to use but if they are not handled or worn correctly or if they don't fit right they can cause serious complications such as infection.
Due to this reason the Optometrist needs to assess your eyes to make sure they are reacting well to the contact lenses, during this time they will also recheck your contact lens prescription. After this appointment if the contact lenses are fitting well and the eye looks healthy the Optometrist will give you the go ahead to order your contact lenses as needed which you can collect from the reception.
If you have been wearing contact lenses for awhile you will also need to have regular aftercare appointments to keep assessing the health of your eyes. We recommend that you have your eyes tested at least yearly if you wear contact lenses.
